Elves originally came from Evela, the large island located at the north pole of Dondavar.

There are several types of elves, commonly known as True Elves, Shoe Elves, and Messenger Elves.  In the last few hundred years, they have come to live elsewhere, even here on our own Earth. 

True Elves are similar in size to a short human teenager, averaging around 4-1/2 feet tall.  They are hard workers and clever tinkerers by nature.  Although they are invariably cheerful and are generally gregarious, they don’t often mix with humans.  
Shoe Elves are the second type of elves.  Known in other places as Brownies, these elves are smaller, usually standing around 2 feet tall.  Unlike the True Elves, their personalities tend to be a bit dour, but they are industrious and sometimes helpful, and if not living in a community with other Shoe Elves or at Santa’s village, will occasionally associate with a human family and perform chores around the house in return for a safe place to live and food.  Shoe Elves have a mischievous streak if they think someone has dishonored them.  As with True Elves, they generally don’t socialize with people, except for the loose connection that they may form with a family.

Messenger Elves are even smaller, being 8 to 12 inches in height. They are constructs, and only alive through Christmas magic..  They tend to be a bit flighty, although they will usually take direction from larger elves.  Messenger Elves share many of the characteristics of the even smaller Faeries, including flight, and the ability to travel far distances very rapidly, as well as cross the barrier between Dondavar and Earth.  Because of this, they are very useful for taking messages from place to place.  Their most interesting characteristic is that they can remain motionless for hours, fooling a normal person into believing that they aren’t even alive  Although friendly to people they know, they have a sense of humor that will often have them playing tricks, even on their friends.

In general, the three types of elves do not mix. Groups of each type of elves have their own villages on Evela.  The only place that many of each type of elf are found is at the very center of Evela in a relatively new town known as Santa’s village.
